This late 19th century Chinese snuff bottle is a charming piece. Absolutely lovely moulded porcelain exterior and sgraffito details, complete with sjade stopper.
Motifs include a ruyi border, as well as a pair of foo dogs on each side chasing a lucky ball- foo dogs are traditionally guardian deities and the ball symbolised their protectiveness in the world.
The fineness of the details indicate it was made in one of the better kilns, quite possibly Jingdezhen as the ruyi details are signature to the area.
Highly desirable and one of the finer moulded porcelain examples we have come across.
Price marked at AUD$440
Measurements 7.5cm height, 5cm width.
Condition: Fairly good antique condition with some wear overall and to base as pictured.
