This really lovely 19th century High Victorian horn and sterling silver beaker has hallmarks for George Adams (Chawner and Co), London, 1872. This is a handsome piece and would make an excellent addition to a study, library or a well-heeled person’s barware collection. A monogram to the shield cartouche adds interest to what is already a statement piece. The glass lined bottom is in excellent condition.
A son-in-law of the renowned Chawner silversmithing family, George Adams proved himself to be an excellent steward of the family fortunes; their pattern book of 1875 is considered a definitive resource in Victorian silver patterns.
Price marked at $600.
Measurements: 14 cm high, 8cm opening dia.
Condition: Very good condition; a few hairline scratches to the sterling silver mounts and some light wear to the horn commensurate with age. No cracks or major issues to note.
