This stunning early to mid 19th century ivory miniature portrait is signed by Emma Dupuy nee Laurent (1792 - 1879) circa 1833-1834. Born Emma Laurent, she was a pupil of her father Jean-Antoine Laurent, a highly talented miniaturist who obtained the Legion of Honour. She then went on to study under the portrait master Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin from 1821, who worked for and was honoured by Napoleon.

She was a notable artist in her own right, exhibiting oils at the Salon from 1822-1831, then miniatures in 1833 -1834 under the name Emma Dupuy following her marriage.

This is an excellent example of her work, featuring her signature dreamy pastel background and a soft Regency look, with finely depicted features of the lady. The exquisite soft colours exemplify the sort of romantic sentiment evocative of a European Grand Tour that was highly popular with aristocrats at the time.

Price marked at AUD$3000.
Measurements: 8cm across, 10.5cm height.
