Exceptional late 18th Century Derby Soup Plate with Unusual Motifs, Historic Staple Repairs
Exceptional antique late 18th century Derby porcelain soup plate with geometric details and heavy gilt patterns . Marked with an early Derby stamp with a crown and crossed batons, this mark was used in the puce variation from 1782 to 1800 placing this plate no later than 1800. A stunning statement piece that would have belonged to a household of note.
Historic repairs on this make this all the more unusual in our eyes, as there are a total of 6 staples holding this plate together. The painstaking nature of staple repair means that these were only done for the most cherished of items. Very skilfully done, it is difficult to discern the majority of the cracks, with only one surface staple and slight loss to border being immediately evident.
Price marked at $800 AUD.
Measurements: 25cm diameter, approx. 5 cm height.
See above paragraph regarding historic repairs. Otherwise only light age-related wear.
