This intriguing figural ceramic lamp circa 1950 is titled “David Lamenting Absalom”, and is named after King David from the Old Testament mourning the death of his son.
Absalom, his third son, died after an unsuccessful rebellion; the Biblical king is here seen on his throne having heard the news and mourning his death.
Despite there being little information on the artist, this is a well-executed piece. King David’s robes are draped and flowing; his features a compelling study of grief. Even the posture suggests bewilderment and loss. Hints of gilt to the robes and his left sandal denote his rank despite the simplicity of the figure’s attire.

Overall a interesting conversation and certainly suitable for any mid century or ceramics collector.

Price is marked at $330AU for the lamp; shade is sold separately.
Good vintage condition; no significant chips, crazing or cracks. Slight loss to gilt rim and some paint loss. Very light wear to the corners and base, please see photos for more information.
Measurements: Base height of approx 20 cm, base diameter of 15cm.
