An beautiful antique mid to late 19th century timber statue from the Philippines with glass eyes depicting Santo Nino or the Child Jesus, after the famous Santo Nino figure of Malitbog, Philippines. The crown is formed of a gilt metal and is removable, as is his baptismal gown, beautifully handmade and beaded with seed pearls which is likely later and circa early to mid 20th century. Such Santos figures were popular in Catholic countries such as Italy and Spain, and were also venerated in various countries that were historically influenced and/or colonised by them. This particular piece was sourced from an reputable antique dealer in Manila, the Philippines.
Price marked at $1600 AUD. Measurements:46cm high, 16.5 diameter. Condition: Hands are unpainted. Wear commensurate with age overall which has created an attractive patina.
