Rare near antique New Zealand sterling silver and nephrite jade souvenir spoon circa 1926
Rare near antique New Zealand sterling silver and nephrite jade souvenir spoon circa 1926
Small but very elegant, this rare vintage near antique New Zealand sterling silver souvenir spoon with nephrite jade handle bears English sterling silver marks to the blade for Birmingham, 1926, sponsor’s mark for John Henry Wynn who was active from 1899 to 1947 and from 1938 as J H Wynn Ltd. Silversmiths being relatively uncommon in New Zealand at the time, it is likely that silver blades and settings were made in the Old World and shipped to New Zealand where they would have been mounted. The silver contrasts beautifully with the nephrite which is native to New Zealand amongst other countries and has been prized throughout time for its beauty and rich green shade.
“New Zealand” etched to the bowl in beautiful cursive font
