A fine substantial George IV Scottish sterling silver fish server with marks for Glasgow, 1823, possibly sponsor’s mark for Mitchell & Russell. The latter has been overstruck, for some reason that has been lost to time. Early Glasgow silver is rare and collectible, and despite the obscurement of the sponsor mark this is still a very desirable piece.
In and of itself this fish silver is a remarkable piece, which is a substantial size and handsome pierced design to the blade. The handle is of a fiddle thread and shell pattern.
Monogrammed G to the handle in an elegant font.
Price marked at $1000AUD.
Measurements: 28.5 cm length, 205.7grams.
Very good antique condition.
