5 George III sterling silver tablespoons, with marks for William Eley I, William Fearn & William Chawner, London, 1808, Barnard family crest
A fine set of 5 George III sterling silver tablespoons, with marks for William Eley I, William Fearn & William Chawner, London, 1808, crested with the Barnard family crest, which is of a Demi-bear rampant and muzzled.
The Barnard family is one that dates back to William the Conqueror, when they were granted arms for their exploits at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
William Eley I, William Fearn & William Chawner of course was one of the most significant partnerships in English silversmithing history, having helped launch the Chawner dynasty- this spoon is a rare example of this partnership’s early work.
Price marked at $1000AUD for the set of 5.
Measurements 177g total weight, 17.5cm length.
Very good antique condition overall, marks crisp and well-struck.
