A poignant piece of history, this British World War One Service Medal was awarded to acting Lance Corporal Douglas Radcliffe Webb (service number 7020), who enlisted on 10 September 1917 and tragically died of his wounds at the 47th Casualty Clearing Station on August 9, 1918.

Growing up here in Manly, Sydney, he went to Sydney Grammar School and was sent to France from Britain upon completion of his services as part of the 18th Australian Infantry Battalion. From his obituary “The deceased soldier was the last' living eligible male representative of a line of connections who gave their lives for the Empire, the total number, including himself, being 40.”

Acting Lance Corporal Webb was then only 18 years old. This service medal not only reminds us of his service, but of all those who died in service of their country.

Price marked at $500 AUD.

Measurements: 3.7cm medal diameter.

Excellent antique condition with original ribbon.
