A beautiful antique silver small bowl with marks for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths, London, 1913. Beautifully made, this is a fine example of the firm’s work. Thick gauge and planished interior, this is a fine example of the British Arts & Crafts style which was popular in that period.

Goldsmiths’ Alliance Ltd, formed in 1866, originated as the company started by Adey Bellamy Savory in 1812. Between 1865 to 1879 the company used the mark of Samuel Smily, as can be seen on this tri-footed tray. In 1893 the firm went voluntarily out of business and was taken over by the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Alliance.

The firm continued to produce items of note throughout the late 19th and early 20th century until it was amalgamated into Garrard & Co. in 1952.

Price marked at $1000 AUD.

Measurements: 12.2cm bowl diameter, 5 cm high, 218.3 grams.

Very good antique condition. Thick gauge and crisp, well-struck hallmarks.
