Art Deco Australiana Bendigo Waverley Ware Pottery, Pitcher Vase w Mottled Sponge Finish

A fine Art Deco to midcentury Bendigo “Waverley Ware” Australian stoneware pottery jug with a mottled pink stone finish. This one is quite unusual as its hues are on the deeper lilac/violet side. Due to the painstaking nature of this finish, they were only produced briefly and the sponge finish wares are quite uncommon.

The Waverley Ware range was a relative novelty, when Bendigo Pottery experimented with more artistic productions from 1930-1949. Characterised by brightly coloured, mottle hues, the range reflected the Australian Art Deco aesthetic popular during the 1930s. 

A fine collectible piece from Australia's oldest working pottery.

Measurements: 18 cm width including handle. Height approximately 15.5 cm. 10 x 12.5cm vessel measurements at widest point.

Very good vintage condition, light wear to rim and base commensurate with age. No major chips or cracks to note.
