A beautiful antique Viennese .900 silver cigarette case owned by Countess Gabriela von Thun und Hohenstein of Bohemia (now Czechoslovakia), with the comital Thun-Honhenstein crest in enamel to the front. Mark by L. Schuch’s, an Austrian imperial court supplier founded in 1831, which was succeeded by G. Edlauer, with .900 Vienna silver mark circa 1872 to 1922.
This was likely given to her by her husband Count Felix Thun-Hohenstein as his signature is below hers on the case.
She was a remarkable woman who dedicated herself to charitable work, particularly women’s organisations as a children’s hospital in Cieszyn. When her entire fortune was confiscated after WWII, the grateful people of Cieszyn and Kończyce Wielkie supported her until her death in 1957.
Price marked at $2000 AUD.
Measurements: 9 by 5.5 cm base measurements. 81.7 grams.
Excellent antique condition overall, marks lightly rubbed but legible. No wear to enamelled crest.
