Antique Venetian Trade Bead Pendant with Sterling Silver Setting, Millefiori Canes Fused in "End of Day" Style
Antique Venetian Trade Bead Pendant with Sterling Silver Setting, Millefiori Canes Fused in "End of Day" Style
Today we are delighted to offer you something rare and intriguing from our new range of jewellery; Venetian trade beads circa the 1800s to 1900s with bespoke settings by our artisans in Java.
From the 1500s onwards, Venice became the leading bead manufacturer in the world. During this time, their beads were exported as far away as Africa and Asia, where they were treasured as heirlooms, dowry goods and currency in their own right.
Likely Venetian but sourced in Java, this intriguing pendant features one of the most unusual beads we have ever come across. Composed of varying patterns, we believe these are fragments of different millefiori canes that were fused together, possibly at the end of the day.
This particular one has several millefiori “eyes”, as well as different patterns fused together into a single bead. Absolutely one of a kind.
They are set in sterling silver, including two modern spacer beads which help protect the bead’s integrity.
Price marked at $260AUD.
Measurements: Bead length approx 2cm. Total length approx. 4.5cm.
Good antique condition. Patina to glass commensurate with age, bead integrity very good.
