A rare antique rare sterling silver racehorse hoof inkwell with original glass liner, with marks for Sheffield, 1927, Henry Wigfull.

Inscription for “Ratton // 1889-1916”. Based upon our initial research on the associated horse and crest, Ratton was a racehorse owned by Mr. AG Bonsor that raced in the All Aged Stakes in 1893, the latter of which is now known as the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

The top is beautifully engraved with a crest depicting a Demi-stag rampant arising from a winged helm. The family motto “Festinatio et Securitas” which loosely translates as “Swiftness and Safety”, a wonderful motto for a racehorse.

We welcome an further information upon this crest and Ratton from racing enthusiasts, genealogists, dealers and other experts.

Price marked at $3000 AUD.

Measurements: 7.5cm high, 17cm across. 730 grams total weight.
