This antique Japanese Meiji Period ivory netsuke is one of the most charming we’ve seen. Featuring a monkey holding its children, its lively expression and well-carved details make this an exceptional piece. The Nihonzaru or Japanese snow monkey is the only monkey species native to Japan and can famously be seen enjoying hot springs in Japan. Very good antique condition, yellowing as pictured which is typical of antique ivory.
