This Japanese ivory statue circa late Meiji period (early 20th century) is of a fisherman holding his catch. A particularly nice detail is that the rope holding the fish is still in its mouth; the intricate little twists of rope add a touch of realism to the piece. The face too is well carved, and the tendons in his feet certainly evoke the effort used and his exhilaration at the catch.

The statue is fixed to a custom stand. Total height including stand approximately 21 cm. Base measurements are 4 x 6 cm.
Good antique condition with one hairline crack along robes; hard to spot unless pointed out. Otherwise wear and slight yellowing commensurate with age.
