獵人與鳥,日本明治時期象牙雕像,底下署名王一(Ouichi) 整體品相良好,可見輕微泛黃。 約高 15.5 厘米,肩部直徑約 5 厘米。

Here we have an excellent Japanese ivory okimono of a falconer and his bird, a very desirable style.

This is likely a piece from the late 19th to early 20th century, most likely Meiji period circa turn of the century. The attention to detail of carving and Western-influenced realism in this piece suggests Tokyo School craftsmanship. The features, drapery of the clothing and naturalistic pose make this one of the finest pieces we have recently come across.

The stooped form of the falcon and the falconer’s attention to his bird is minutely detailed.

Signed in red lacquer to the base is kanji for Ouichi. The Ouchi family was one that boasted superb craftsmanship in ivory craftsmanship during the Meiji and Showa period (Ouchi Gyokuso and Ouichi Sosui respectively). While this Ouchi signature cannot be definitely attributed to either party, it is certainly a piece displaying excellent skill.
