Absolutely lovely set of High Victorian sterling silver cocktail skewers. So elegant with their floral repousse motif tops, this would be fantastic for any elegant dinner or cocktail party. 3 are hallmarked for London 1848, 1 later marked for London, 1853.

These were made by and bear maker’s marks for renowned silver firm Chawner & Co (1840-1883), which was initially founded in 1815 by William Chawner. They were made when the firm was owned by a family relative named George Adams. The firm really entered its heyday under Adams’ leadership, described by modern expert as being “the most important manufacturer of spoons and forks in London”. They participated in both the 1851 Great Exhibition and the 1862 International Exhibition. Their pattern book (c.1875) is a much looked to reference for many Victorian patterns, and they supplied some very important retailers such as Hunt & Roskell, R.& S. Garrard & Co and Elkington & Co.
