A beautiful George IV sterling silver crested table/dessert spoon with marks for London 1829, William Bateman II.
The crest is beautifully etched and depicts a cubit arm erect in armour, the hand grasping a dagger with point upwards. The exact family is yet to be determined but a possible connexion based upon research to the Butlers of Hertfordshire. If you have seen this crest, please feel free to reach out to us.
William Bateman II was a fine maker in his own right as well as a member of the Bateman silversmithing dynasty; a fine piece which would be particularly desirable for collectors of English Georgian silver.
