Antique George III sterling silver table spoon with marks for Thomas Pitts I, London, year mark circa 1788
Antique George III sterling silver table spoon with marks for Thomas Pitts I, London, year mark circa 1788
A George III sterling silver table spoon with marks for Thomas Pitts I, London, year mark circa 1788.
Intriguingly engraved with two crests. The former is a possible connexion to the Bell family, whose crest similarly contains a branch of olive and a sword in saltire.
The other crest depicts a dexter naked arm embowed holding In the hand an arrow point upwards, all proper. Similar crests belonging to the Taylour and Colt families suggest that this crest may belong to a branch of these families.
The engraving of dual crests suggests that this was made to celebrate the joining of two noble families, likely upon a wedding occasion.
If anyone has further information on these crests they are more than welcome to reach out.
