Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver and Ivory Paper Knife/ Letter Opener
Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver and Ivory Paper Knife/ Letter Opener
Sterling, silver and ivory paper knife with a sterling silver handle.
Beautifully done repousse work to the handle, complementing the elegant simplicity of the ivory. Hallmarks for Birmingham, 1901. The maker’s mark is partially rubbed but cross-referencing silversmiths active in Birmingham during this period, we believe strongly that this can be attributed to Hilliard & Thomason. They specialised in small exquisite items; their novelty nutmeg graters were highly sought after.
Price marked at AUD$800.
Measurements: approximately width of blade approximately 2 1/2 cm, 28 cm long.
Condition: Good antique condition; some wear and fleabite chips to blade commensurate with age.
