Antique early 20th century Art Deco European Lorgnette, Sterling Silver with Guilloche Enamel
Antique early 20th century Art Deco European Lorgnette, Sterling Silver with Guilloche Enamel
A fine Art Deco sterling silver and guiloche enamel lorgnette. The enamel is in excellent condition and the engine turned details come through beautifully, with the initials MAC clearly inscribed. As well as engine turned details on the back. The body is hallmarked sterling silver and L.R. and a foreign hallmark we cannot decipher. This piece is likely continental European in origin.
Lorgnettes were one of the many diversions and games in high society, when a lady using these at the opera could also display her interest in the whys, where and of course whos in her surroundings. A lovely decorative piece, and one that would be ideal for any collectors of historical costumes and vintage clothing.
Price marked at $550 AUD.
Measurements: 11.5cm length, 3cm across at widest point.
Good antique condition to body, however there is damage to one side of frame and lens missing. Main body in excellent condition; getting these made into reading glasses would be fantastic or simply as an ornamental pendant.
