Antique Colonial Australian embroidered belt with sterling silver buckle featuring 1887 double florin
Beautifully made, this antique Colonial Australian embroidered belt with sterling silver buckle features a centrepiece of a 1887 double florin mounted in a swivel setting of the period. The obverse being the crowned and veiled bust ('Jubilee Head') of Queen Victoria left with legend around. Hallmarked Sterling silver to the setting; both coin and main buckle setting are .925 silver purity (sterling standard) with the buckle catch being base metal.
The antique ribbon embroidery belt fabric is of the period and a beautiful cornflower blue with floral motifs embroidered throughout; the silk is remarkably strong with no shattering.
Price marked at $500 AUD.
Measurements: 68cm belt length. 6 by 6cm buckle measurements. 50.5 grams silver weight.
Excellent antique condition overall; buckle has been pinned to fabric and will require restitching; some scuffs to fabric border. We have left this as is for the next owner of this belt to decide belt length etc.
