Antique Chinese Tang-Style Ivory Figurine of Long Wang Nu
Antique Chinese Tang-Style Ivory Figurine of Long Wang Nu
This antique ivory figurine of Guanyin's female attendant Long Wang Nu is a beautiful and rare piece.
Signed with Wang Nu (王女) on the bottom, this suggests that she is the Bodhisattva's attendant 龍王女, the Dragon King's youngest daughter. She is seen as a bodhisattva in her own right in Chinese mythology.
Guanyin, the goddess of mercy, is the physical embodiment of compassion in Chinese Buddhism and mythology. She shares similar attributes as Guanyin's youngest disciple.
She is beautifully depicted in the Tang-style with courtly hairstyle, robe and the simple robes of a bodhisattva.
Measurements: 16.5cm height, 5.5 by 3.4 cm base measurements.
Some stable hairline cracks as pictured which is typical of ivory of this age. One small chip to base. Still displays beautifully, and a substantial weight.
