A beautiful near antique to antique Chinese export tray circa early 20th century with marks for Nanking Store, a retail silver smith that was located on 444 Szechuan Road, Shanghai and active from 1895-1940. Marked and tested for silver between .800 to .900 silver purity.
This elegant tray with beautiful planished background, faux bamboo border detail and elegantly engraved bamboo motifs is a fine example of their work. Later inscription circa 1950 within central cartouche which reads “To ‘Jimmie’ Sole and Jean // from Grant, Gunther & Scott // 16-3 Shanghai 1950”. Unfortunately with 1950 being a year after the Communist takeover of Shanghai, many records of that time were lost and the history of this piece is lost in time.

Price marked at $4400 AUD.
Measurements: 26.2cm length, 728 grams.
Minor blemishes and wear commensurate with age, otherwise very good antique condition. Retailer's mark rubbed, other marks clear and legible.
