Beautiful Chinese export silver spoon with marks for Sun Shing, an early and important maker active in Canton circa 1790 to 1830. Early makers of Chinese export silver were asked to make pieces that would suit English armorial pieces; as a result they would follow the patterns provided meticulously, down to the hallmarks. These pseudo-hallmarks are an interesting part of early Chinese export silver history, and provide insight into the Canton mercantile trade of the late 18th to early 19th century.

Engraved with a family crest and monogrammed to the handle in elegant Regency style cursive.

Price marked at $180 AUD.

Measurements: 4.7cm length, 31.6g.

Good antique condition; crest and monogram has been over-polished and the bowl has been damaged from historic use. Pseudo hallmarks crisp and clear; this would make an excellent restoration project for collectors of Chinese export silver.
