A lovely antique Chinese Canton export ivory tangram puzzle box, likely produced during the mid to late 19th century. A rare and exquisite amusement particularly in such good condition in this part of the world. This 7 piece tangram box features beautifully carved ivory puzzle pieces, and its previous owner kept the solution written on a piece of paper.
Many of these were produced for export in Canton during the 19th century; variations of these were also produced in Siberia using mammoth ivory. This is made in a classic style with a sliding lid decorated with various figures. Side are carved with floral motifs, while the tangram pieces feature floral and bird motifs. There is a carved floral decoration to the interior of the base.

Excellent antique condition, one stable hairline split to base of box, does not affect use or display.
