This ivory figurine depicts the goddess Guanyin, originally the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara in Hindu mythology. Circa late 19th to 20th century, this is a lovely piece to grace any home.
Here Guanyin is seen with the folds of her headdress and her praying gestures exquisitely carved. The sculptor has taken advantage of ivory's natural curvature to depict the alcove in which Guanyin sits, which is also carved with geometric and cloud like patterns. Overall a lovely and well executed piece.
Measurements: 15cm total height including base, base diameter approx 6 cm.
