Antique Asian blue and white porcelain bowl, likely Meiji Period Japan
Antique Asian blue and white porcelain bowl, likely Meiji Period Japan
Beautifully made antique Asian blue and white porcelain bowl. We had sourced this from a reputable dealer in Asia as Chinese Qing Dynasty porcelain. Upon further research in our opinion this is indeed a 19th century piece, but likely made in Meiji Period Japa in homage to the superb qinghua porcelain of Ming dynasty China.
Stylistically with its flared outer lip, high foot rim and of course the lovely blue and white pattern, this piece hearkens to the blue and white kraakware pieces of the 15th century. However with its idiosyncratic maker’s mark and thickness of the cobalt enamels among other characteristics, we believe this to be a finely made Japanese piece, possibly from Arita.
Price marked at $650 AUD.
Measurements: 6.9cm height, 17.5cm bowl diameter.
Very good antique condition overall, with kiln grit and wear to base as pictured.
