Antique Alabaster Lion and Stag Statue on Marble Plinth

Lovely antique alabaster lion and stag statue on marble plinth, most likely late 19th to early 20th century. A neo-classical style where both animals are incredibly well-depicted in the moment where the lion seizes the stag by the throat.

Excellent antique condition; this beautiful stone was prized by sculptures for its snow-white, almost transclucent colouration and its relative softness lent itself well to carving. This meant that alabaster works could be highly intricate, as seen here with the well depicted mane and the dynamic pose of the stag. 

Some light wear which is often seen in antique alabaster statues, overall otherwise in excellent antique condition. Some light wear to the stag’s knees and several points as pictured.
