A rare and sublime example of Siam silver, this 20th century Thai Nakon sterling silver presentation box is sure to delight any serious silver collector
During the reign of King Bhumipol Adulyadej, Thai silver-smithing enjoyed a renaissance under his patronage. During this time, Thai Nakon became one of the most prominent silver-smithing firms in Thailand and became silversmiths for the Royal Court. Presentation pieces were given by the King to foreign dignitaries such as President John F Kennedy in 1963, as well as foreign ambassadors, US Navy Rear Admiral Cooper and other individuals of note.
A presentation plaque to interior dates this piece to 1972; the repousse work features Thai deities and dancers, as well as scrolling traditional motifs. Vintage Thai Nakon pieces are increasingly rare and valuable, and pieces of this size and quality all the moreso. A collector’s piece.
Price marked at $1750 AUD.
Measurements: 20cm by 10cm, 5cm high. Approx 540 grams total weight.
Good exterior vintage condition, with light dents to top as pictured. Interior has splits to veneer.
