20th Century Prattware Pot Lid of Henry VIII based on National Portrait Gallery Painting.
20th Century Prattware Pot Lid of Henry VIII based on National Portrait Gallery Painting.
This 20th century Prattware pot lid with a photographic transfer of Henry VIII’s portrait was possibly done by a Staffordshire factory sometime circa the 1960s. However, Coalport did reproductions of Prattware up until 1979. So the exact date of production is a mystery, but despite its relatively modern nature, the portrait itself is of lovely quality. It is based on a 17th century oil portrait hanging in the National Portrait Gallery of London; in a style after Hans Holbein the Younger based on a work of 1536, it depicts the Tudor monarch much as we think of him today.
A charming piece, and would be an excellent choice for any Tudor enthusiast to reframe and hang on their walls.
Price marked at $140 AUD.
Measurements: 10cm dia.
Very good vintage condition, some yellow residue, possibly adhesive that we have left as-is around the rim. Would not affect display if framed.
