A beautiful antique alabaster sculpture after Luigi Pamplona’s Praying Boy, circa 19th century.
Luigi Pampaloni (1791-1847) was a Florentine master who studied under Lorenzo Bartolini at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara. His clients includes Maria Antoinette of Bourbon and Leopold II, Grand Duke of Tuscany. He was also commissioned to create pieces in the Duomo as well as the Leonardo da Vinci statue for the Loggiato of the Uffizi.

This piece, Praying Boy was first executed in 1826 in plaster for the funerary monument of Russian noblewoman Anna Potocki's youngest daughter. Proving immensely popular, this was repeated in marble and plaster.
Displaying neoclassical and romantic sensibilities, this piece is beautifully carved to depict childhood innocence and the sentimental grief of loved ones at their passing.

Price marked at $1500 AUD.
Measurements: 22.5cm height. 9.5 by 10.5cm base measurements.
Excellent antique condition, minor scuffs to alabaster and wear to base commensurate with age.
