Each flambé glaze piece is by nature of the glaze one of a kind.

The art of flambé glaze or “sang de bouef” in the West was directly inspired by Ming dynastic pottery practices. Precise temperatures were required in order for the oxides to flash red; this skill only emerged in the West centuries later, with pioneers such as Charles Noke finally achieving this technique.

This small round vase is a classic example of Doulton flambe ware, and features a charming country house scene executed to great effect against the rich red flambe glaze. This particular vase is circa 1930s which places this in the Noke period.

An elegant little piece which would be so practical as a little vase or trinket bowl.

Price marked at AUD$380.

Measurements: 12 cm across at widest point, 7.5 cm high.

Condition: Very good vintage near antique condition with wear to base and tiny spots of wear to glaze commensurate with age and antique Doulton flambe conditions.
