This absolutely stunning 18th century Jun style flambe, or sang de boeuf glaze brush washer is a rare and exceptional find.
This particular peach-form style was highly popular during the 18th century- while Jun style glazes originated in the eponymous 10th-13th century kiln, Qing Emperors such as Qianlong were great admirers of archaic Chinese pottery, and under his auspices such glazes were reproduced in Jingdezhen.
See an excellent lot essay from Christies’s regarding peach form glazes, and how “peach-form washers of various designs and sizes, usually covered with pale monochrome glazes, were popular in the eighteenth century”.
This one is of an exceptionally large size, with a highly desirable blue-purple-oxblood spectrum of hues that was and remains particularly rare. Truly a collector’s item.
