A handsome pair of George III Scottish sterling silver serving spoons with marks for Edinburgh, 1813, James McKay. This mark was used from 1807 to 1881, but current research indicates that several silversmiths named James McKay may have used this mark, designated by the Edinburgh Incorporation of Goldsmiths as James McKay II, James McKay IV and James McKay V.
Monogram of the period to handle, “IB” or “JB” in elegant script. Single-struck fiddle and thread pattern with shell motif to handle. Thick gauge and substantial in size.
Price marked at $2000 AUD the pair.
Measurements: 33cm length. 214 grams total weight.
Excellent antique condition with minor wear overall commensurate with age. Light rubbing to marks but overall legible.
