Here we have an elegant crested George III sterling silver master salt cellar with marks for London, 1796, Robert Hennell | & David Hennell Il. Robert, David and Samuel Hennell were the sons of David Hennell I; Robert and David’s partnership was active from 1795 to 1801. The Hennell silversmithing dynasty was highly prominent from their founding in the 18th century until the 1970s when the firm was sold, with their clients including Lord Nelson, Queen Victoria and the creme de la creme of society.
This elegant piece is engraved with monogrammed initials of the period to back and the crest of the Young family of north Dean to the front, featuring a cubit dexter arm holding an arrow, point downwards.
Price marked at $1500 AUD.
Measurements: 92.6 grams total weight, 14cm across from handle to handle, 8cm height from base to top of handle.
Remnants of gilt to interior, otherwise very good antique condition with minor wear overall commensurate with age, marks crisp and clear.
