Beautiful antique Victorian sterling silver heart shaped novelty desk accessory/ organiser clip, London, 1897, William Comyns & Sons. Motifs inspired by Reynolds’ Angels. Comyns’ refined work had a premier reputation for its intricate designs and excellent quality, and was sold by the world’s best silver companies such as Tiffany & Co.
Reynolds Angels is the popular name given to a portrait painting by the Georgian master Sir Joshua Reynolds, first exhibited in 1787. It sparked a massive wave of popularity which was later revived in the late Victorian to Edwardian era, as the sentimental cherubs were incredibly to their taste.
This charming piece remains highly collectible today.
