Beautiful Victorian Chawner & Co. crested sterling silver serving ladle with marks for London, 1877. Crest of the period to the handle depicting a crowned Demi-lion rampant.
Made by Chawner & Co. during the George Adams period, one of our favourite firms and makers. Chawner & Co. were fine and prolific makers, supplying retailers such as Hunt & Roskell, R.& S. Garrard & Co & Elkington & Co.
A son-in-law of the renowned Chawner silversmithing family, George Adams proved himself to be an excellent steward of the family fortunes; their pattern book of 1875 is considered a definitive resource in Victorian silver patterns.
