Beautiful antique repousse silver Laotian betel leaf holder, in the shape of a horn of plenty, circa late 19th to early 20th century. This style of betel leaf holder was prized by the Tai Lu people, an ethnic group predominantly found in northern Laos.
Finely made vessels and containers, particularly ornate betel-leaf and betel-nut containers, were used in Buddhist ceremonies to symbolise the worldly luxuries that Prince Siddhartha gave up when he became enlightened.
Unmarked which is common in tribal silver but tests as silver.
