Stunning High Victorian Sheffield Plate dinner cloche with deer finial, made circa 1850s to 1880s at the height of the Scottish Highlands craze.

Scottish motifs were hugely popular in England, and particularly after Prince Albert purchased Balmoral in 1852 a revival of the Scottish Highlands craze swept Victorian Britain, sparking a new fervour among domestic tourists.

With beautiful ivy and fern engraving as well as the beautiful stag finial, this cloche would have been absolutely magnificent during its heyday. Despite losses and some damage over the years, it remains a beautiful statement piece.

Measurements: 27.5 by 35.5 cm base measurements, 24cm high.

Fair antique condition- stag’s antlers have been removed, cloche has been previously replated, ivy and fern engraving rubbed throughout. Wear to exterior and interior commensurate with age including moderate blemishes to exterior.
