A rare piece that exemplifies the grace and charm of the Regency period, this beautiful antique Spode Bat Ware coffee can is an excellent example of early English transfer ware. In particular, bat ware is named after the glue “bat” that was used in this early process of transferware production. This particular coffee can is pattern 557, this is identified in the excellent reference book "Spode Transfer Printed Ware 1784 - 1833" by David Drakard and Paul Holdway as circa 1811-1833.
Beautifully executed transfer ware scene of the English countryside to body of coffee can, richly gilded border trim to top and bottom of coffee can as well as handle.
Price marked at $140 AUD.
Measurements: 6.5cm height, 6.5cm diameter.
Excellent antique condition with minor gilt loss overall and minor wear commensurate with age and as pictured. Please note that pictures form part of description. Unmarked as typical of early Spode pieces.
