Antique Chinese export silver trinket dish with Guangxu Period Jiang nan (Kiang Nan) 7 Mace 2 Candareen coin

A lovely Chinese export silver trinket dish, set in the base with a rare 1898 Jiang nan (Kiang Nan) 7 Mace 2 Candareen coin of the Guangxu period. Set in sterling silver dish circa 1910s to 1930s.

A very rare coin; despite its period setting this would be a lovely piece for collectors. 7 Mace 2 Candareen coins from the Jiangnan mint are extremely rare, with one listed online for 2,750 pounds at the time of research, and the finest examples was listed at auction for 100,000 USD and up, with a specimen version selling for over 1.2 million USD.

These came from the estate of Supt. J.F. Lovell, who served in the Shanghai Municipal Force from 1914 to 1939. His remarkable life and career will be the subject of an upcoming article in Antiques to Vintage Magazine.

Price marked at $680 AUD.

Measuremets: 64.2 grams total weight (Coin 27grams, setting 37.2 grams). 8.5cm diameter, 1.1cm height.

Numismatic Information: Coin .900 silver, 27grams. Circulation 1,800,000. Y#145.1.

Condition: Coin lightly rubbed, overall excellent antique condition with wear commensurate with age.
