This lovely vintage novelty cottage ware teapot is in the Staffordshire Croft pattern produced by SylvaC circa 1930s to 1950s in Staffordshire, England.

It is beautifully designed to resemble a croft or traditional English cottage, with a whimsical brick chimney, green wooden door and moulded pink hollyhocks. The handle and spout are made with a faux bois effect. A charming piece that perfectly conjures up the idyllic beauty of English country life.

While this piece bears the pattern name and Staffordshire backstamp, Staffordshire Croft was produced by Copestake & Shaw which was founded in 1894- the trademark SylvaC would only be introduced in 1937; many of their pieces particularly around the earlier period were unmarked but several pieces in this exact pattern have varying marks, some with SylvaC and some without. Based upon research, we are confident in attributing this to Copeland & Shaw (later better known as SylvaC). Impressed pattern number 4809 to base.

Price marked at $220 AUD.

Measurements: 24cm length from handle to spout, 15cm height.

Excellent vintage condition. Asides from light wear and fleabites to the inner rim of the lid as pictured, this piece is in beautiful condition, with no issues to handle or spout as is common with these pieces. The colours are vivid with minimal wear to glaze.
