A lovely small vintage Korean morijang chest with zelkova wood veneers, a variant of elm native to Korea. This piece is likely circa early to mid 20th century.
These were used during the Joseon dynasty in bedrooms to store seasonal clothing as well as valuables; the sloped top was to ensure scrolls did not fall off.
This particular one is a charming and practical piece, with the zelkova grain beautifully displayed and an interior lined with paper. This would be perfect as a small storage chest or in a hallway as a small stool or foot rest.
