A beautiful pair of Georgian sterling silver tablespoons, crested with bright cut pattern. Marks for Thomas Tooke, London, 1780.

A very interesting crest from a family with a colourful history, this crest featuring a blackamoor’s head in profuule is of the Blakemore family, many of whom settled in Australia during the early 1800s. Many of them had been transported for various misdeeds- despite their long history, with their name listed in the Domesday Book of 1086.

Notable members of the Blackmore family in Australia include Peter Terrence Blackmore (b. 1945), who was the Mayor of the City of Maitland from 1986 to 1990.

Well made and of substantial gauge, these are perfect for aficionados of early English silver as well as epicureans alike.
