A very lovely sterling silver William IV vinaigrette with gilt-washed interior with marks for Thomas & William Simpson, London, 1824. Dating from the Regency Period, this charming vinaigrette was used by fashionable ladies to hold scented fabric, which they would hold to their nose to ward off unpleasant odours (which was quite the necessity in the 18th century).

Beautifully engraved details to both the top and bottom, with an etched pattern reminiscent of paisley or even leopard spots. The cartouche is inscribed with the initials M.A and the interior is gilt-washed, with a beautiful floral patterned grille.

These antique vinaigrettes are hotly desired by collectors and are rare to find, particularly here in Australia.

Price marked at $750 AUD.

Measurements: 3.6 by 2cm, 1.3cm high. 14.2grams.

Overall very good antique condition; one dimple to the base which is not visible when used or displayed.
