This stunning and well carved piece is one of the finest pieces of ivory we have seen; an African Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire) souvenir from the early 20th century, it displays the magnificent sheen and glossy grain signature to African Ivory.
The youth carries the prey he has caught which looks to be some sort of native antelope, possibly a springbok. The young hunter carries his spear which he has freshly thrown- the spear which can be removed from his hand and admired separately. His mobile, expressive face and figure displays the ivory to excellent advantage.
